Promising Research Paths for Sustainability: Cutting Edge Perspectives from the Natural and Social Sciences
ESPP 891 ~ 1 unit credit/no credit
This seminar series will focus on the work of six internationally renowned speakers from the social and natural science disciplines. Through in-depth discussions with speakers, we will explore what their discipline has to offer to sustainability. In addition to learning about the cutting edge of the research in their discipline, we will explore future research directions and connections between MSU and the world. Graduate students from all disciplines are encouraged to enroll.

    Meeting Dates: Fridays Sept 7, Sept 21, Oct 5, Oct 19, Nov 2 & Nov 16 from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm.

Course Format: The readings (an essay or article) for each week will be accessible via Angel. Students will post a response and 2 questions they wish to discuss on Angel the day before the class. On Friday, we will meet and use our postings as a starting point for our discussion. During the first hour, the author will only listen to our discussion. During the second hour, the author can participate in our discussion. During the third hour we will enjoy a catered lunch discussion, thanks to the support of the Sustainable Michigan Endowed Project. This is your chance to have in depth discussions with some of the leading authors in the natural and social sciences about how their work relates to sustainability, where they see their field heading and connecting with other research agendas.
